Question
I was wondering Why My female Guinea Pig ( She gave birth to 4 babies I wasnt aware of when she delivered it ( in the middle of the night when I was sleeping ) all 4 of them died which made me very sad to know none of them Survived. ( and yes First Litter)..
Why did they die ...??  and If she ever litters again I hope I am here for her when she delivers again.. ( if they could have survived ( was I suppose to do anything for her or the babies. when they deliver or can They make it on there own ... ( Or lets say What am I expecting when she delivers again if shes pregnant again???

please explain to me what I need to do just incase of any problems after Birth or what to expect to happen ( on there own ). of what Mom(guinea Pig). has to do.  and if she gets pregnant again when is the Male suppose to be seperated from her when she concieve again..
I need to know these things so I can prepare her better so that none of the Babies will die this time  Please let me know Thank you very much

Answer
it is because of this that breeding should really be left to the breeders. still births sometimes happen, usually though when you wake up to find dead babies it is because the mother did not clean them up properly.

there are several complicated things that people can do to help with the birth but really unless you are a vet or deal with guinea pigs in a professional capacity eg. breed/rescue etc they should not be attempted, and even then usually these methods i am referring to are for when things go wrong and if not done correctly then will create even more damage.

for the amature the best thing to do is ensure that the mother has plentty of space in the cage, has plenty of food, water and fresh veg and is not stressed. once babies are orn soak a cuttle fish bone in the water you give her to up her calcium and have a vet on standby incase something goes goes wrong.

as for reintroducing the male, my advice is dont, pregnancy can kill the mother, and certainly do not place him in for the first two months after the birth.

thats about everything
