Is my guinea pig pregnant? and is she a one of a kind?

Question
Well I have had my cousins Guinea pig over for probably a month now in the hopes that they would breed. I don't know if they have. She doesn't like it when I touch her belly and she has been eating more each week. She is getting bigger. Please tell me yes! oh and I was wondering if you have ever seen this case before. My guinea pig is a freak (no offence Lilly) but she is the only guinea pig I have seen with TWO toes on her back feet. Now I know it's not misbreeding because her breeder is my best friend. Also I asked a vet and he said I have never seen it before. So i my guinea pig one in a million or one of a million.

please reply soon!

Answer
Hi Charlotte,

Having two toes instead of three on her back foot is indeed rare, so I don't know about one in a million but she is special.

As for her being pregnant, it sounds very likely that she may be.  For the healthiest pregnancy and babies possible, be sure to add vitamin supplements (from a local pet store) to her food and water every day in addition to giving her lettuce and/or carrots every day.  She also needs daily exercise and attention.  Company in her cage would be a very good thing, it can even be her mate all the way up until she gives birth - at that time, any other piggie must be removed.

Thank you for your question, I hope I have been of some help to you.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  Good luck with your guinea pig (=
