Smelly, White Guinea Pig Urine. What does it mean?

Question
Hi there. I have 2 male guinea pigs, both 6-7 months old. Up until now they've always been healthy without any medical problems. Recently I've noticed their urine has been rather smelly, white and milky like. The smell is becoming almost unbearable. I'm wonder if this could mean they have a bladder infection and if so what do you recommend I do? Also, is there any possible way that I can get rid of the smell. My family wants to get rid of them, but I absolutely refuse.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and answer my question. I appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Ivana,

Sorry it took me this long to get back to you!

It's possible that your guinea pigs could have a UTI(Urinary Tract Infection), and although they are rare in male guinea pigs, they may have bladder or kidney stones.

You need to get them to a vet ASAP, I'm sure your guinea pigs are in pain and their infection needs to be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian very soon. It's very hard to tell the difference between a UTI and bladder or kidney stones, most of the symptoms are the same. They both require antibiotics and treatment from a veterinarian as well.

I hope your guinea pigs get well very soon! Let me know how everything works out at the vet.

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
