Question
Hi, today I noticed that my guinea pig was making this static sound that could almost be described as congestion when breathing.  I looked up symptoms of an upper respiratory infection and started to freak out.  She's four years old.  As of now, only one eye looks a little crusty, but sometimes her eyes are a little bit watery, but it doesn't last and they're fine the majority of the time.  However, I think she might have had diarrhea a few days ago and has been sleeping more than usual.  I understand that guinea pigs sleep more with advanced age, but I just don't know if she's sick or not.  I'm really worried and don't know what to do.  If you could please offer me some advice, that would be great.
P.S. We keep her cage in the kitchen, but away from our door leading to the garage...should we move the cage?

Answer
Hello Britany!
I suggest getting her furry bum to the vet for a check-up. Ask him/her to give you a round of meds for her. It sounds like it could be a URI or a cold.
As for the kitchen-cage thing, kitchens do tend to be high traffic areas with lots of windows doors and drafts. If you are concerned, move the cage to a more low traffic room. I keep mine in my office room.
