My new guinea pig, Sophie.

Hello Andy,

I just got a black and white sheltie guinea pig from a pet store a few days ago.. she is very sweet but I Don't know if its a good thing or not, she just sits in her cage all day and when we take her out she just cuddles up onto our shoulder. When we put her in the play pen rarely does she run around. I saw her popcorning the day after we got her and that was about it.. do you think she is depressed and in need of a guinea pig? She doesnt really make loud noises she will be in her cage and occasionaly start squeeking but very softly, and she does it for a long time.. also last quest, can she drink water out of a dish? Becuase she had two water bottles, one for calcium, one for regulare water... and the regulare water on leeked so now I  use a little guinea pig bowl, she is about 4-5 mothes old... thanks for your time!

Hi Natalie

Much of the behaviour you describe can be put down to Sophie getting used to her new home. For a few days she will be nervous.

Some pigs are noisier, more active than others but it certainly wouldnt do any harm to get her a friend as piggies are social animals.

A water dish is fine but they have a habit of tipping them over, at least my boy piggies do!
