Question
ho there i have a 5 mth old male called azumi. he has recentl been in the animal for test due to blood in his urine. he also received while in there some injections of antibiotics. he did have a scab where these were given and mentioned it to the vet because he was scratching alot and asked if he might have mites. she checked him and said no he hasnt. but over the past few days i have noticed that he is scratching more in the same place and has another hugh scab and an open wound in the centre of his back just below his shoulders kind of. he can go hrs when sleeping and relaxing but when awake and jumping around scratches and bites his fur in that place. he doesnt seem to mind when he is on my lap if i stroke him in that area or even if i move the fur to have a look. he was only at the hospital last week and been home since wednesday last week. the rest of his fur is lovely and smooth and no dandruff or no bald patches at all. his cage is kept very clean he has no cage mate at the mo ans my other GP sadly died so will be getting him a new companion soon. what do you think i should do ????

Answer
Shellei,

It could be mites and the vet just didn't know it at the time you asked.

He could also just be scratching in that place as a reaction to the injections and the healing of the wound. Try making him a wrap out of of some cloth and wrap it around the area where he is scratching and see if that doesn't help heal it up.

If he is still scratching the area and if it isn't starting to heal up in say about 4 days or the scratching gets worse, then you may want to take him back to the vet and get him checked again for mites or ask what might be causing him to scratch like that.

I hope this helps and that Azumi starts to feel better soon.
        Take care now,
