Question
Just about 2 months ago i was given a female guinea pig and i still cant pick her up without having her run around the cage like crazy and when i do go for the grab she kicks and kicks and just basically scratches my hand. She also gave birth a week ago to two babies i figured maybe it was because she was pregnant but nope it still doesn't solve the issue. What can i do?

Answer
Lex,

Sorry for just now getting back to you with a reply, I've been sick.

She still isn't use to you. Even though you have had her for 2 months it doesn't change anything. She doesn't know you so is still a little scared of you and also she has the babies which she is nursing so there is also that to take in to consideration. The best way to get her to trust you and such is to take it slow. Start by talking to her when ever around the cage. Then after a few minutes of talking to her slowly place your hand into the cage and allow her to come up and smell it. Then while still talking to her and after she smelled your hand pet her for a few more minutes. Do this for a few days so that she can get use to you. Then before picking her up go through the steps above and then pick her up and sit down with her. Have a treat with you so that when you have her you can reward her so to make it a pleasant experience for her.

Remember to have patients and just keep working with her. It just take time to build up that relationship of trust between you two. Take it slow and easy don't hurry anything.

I hope this helps,
  Take care,
     Jules
