Guinea Pig has lump

Question
I bought my ten week old guinea pig two weeks ago and soon found a lump under his chin. The lump has got bigger and bigger so i spoke to a couple of breeders who told me it was an abscess. They said it would pop and to ensure it was clean when this happened. It still hasn't popped and is now very big so i took him to the vet. The vet said it wouldn't pop and gave me antibiotics but said they might not work. He said they could operate but it would probably come back! He is eating fine and it doesn't seem to hurt him so i wonder if i should just leave it? I am worried that he is going to have a limited life and as i just got him this is obviously worrying! Please help me!

Answer
They usually will come back eventually, but not for a little while, depending on the severity. You could either have surgery done on it, or have it lansed and flushed with chlorhexidine at a vet's. And the anitbiotics should be continued. As long as he seems to be doing fine with the lump you could also just leave it there for right now, although there may come a time in the future when it will need to be flushed. Let me know if you have any more questions.
