Question
I have a 2 and a half year old male guinea pig named oreo. I feel that he is quiet lonely and i am thinking about getting another guinea pig. He is not neutered so i dont know if it is a good idea. I was think about getting a female short haired guinea pig and then spaid her so they do not breed. Do you think this is a good idea i really need your opinion please help me. I also need to know about what they will act like when they first meet for oreo will be bigger and the new guinea pig will be smaller.

Answer
Guinea pigs are like people, and they usually only like ceryain pigs, although males and females are usually ok. It would probably be easier to get your male neutered, also cheaper. The female would also have to be old enough and big enough to have to surgery done. It usually works out ok introducing a male and female, although you may want to put them in a new cage at the same time, because your male will probably be territorial over his cage. There are really no other options though if you want to get him a friend, most males will not get along with other males. Let me know if you have any more questions.
