Brown spots

Hi, we just adopted two guinea pigs yesterday and i noticed they have light brownish red dots on their fur (mostly stomach area) and if you stare you can see them slowly move twords the skin. What is this and can we get it?

Hi Lisa,

It sounds like they have lice. Since you can see them it can't be mites (mites are microscopic), so it's most likely to be lice. I'm pretty sure humans cannot catch lice from guinea pigs, but don't take my full word on that! See  http://www.guinealynx.info/lice.html for information on lice and treatments for it.
