my guinea pigs behavior

i just got a male guinea pig last week and my guinea pig is in a small size cage so i can't put anything in there right now for him to play with.i give him treats but i think i got off to a bad start with him because i didn't know how to tame guinea pigs and i was always trying to hold him. how do i get him to come to me and not scratch?

You must remember that he is still probably a bit scared of his new environment.

You might like to try getting him a nice sized cage, but generally, the best tips are to try and hand-feed treats and to handle him regularly but gently in order that he learns to trust you gradually.
