Skinny pig has tears in his ears

Question
He is alone in his cage and yesterday I noticed he has little chunks out of the tops of both of his ears.  His mate and the babies are in a separate cage, close enough to smell and look at each other, but not close enough to touch.  So how does he get these in his ears and should I worry about it>  I use terramyacin on my baby guinea pigs eyes at birth and I put a little of that on them.  any advice??

Answer
You mean small missing parts from his ears and little rips?

there are a few things that could cause it, it could just be that he is catching them on something, that he suffers from a condition like ecsma or that he is tearing them when scratching himself which means he may have mange, or a dusty (and so itchy) home.

what is handy also is that you have three pigs so you can check the inside of his ears to see whther the skin is dry scabby or sore looking, and chekc it agaisnt another pigs ear. if so then it could be that he has an infection or even mites in his ear, in which case I would have him taken down to the vets. the tears in his ears would then be from repitive scratching because of the irritation.
if however the ears appear fine then I would use a mange spray and tea tree oil cream, apply the spray first on his body (not the ears)and then the cream anywhere where is looks sore (including the ear tips). this will then treat any possible mange or ecsma, treat it until the problems are gone, if the problems come back after a little while then you know it is escma and only need to use the cream. but while you are doing this keep a close eye on his ears, in fact if you are not concerned about vet bills I would have fhim taken to the vet and get his ear inspected just to be on the safe side.

best of luck and congrads on the baby pig.
