Help! My guinea pig will not move his back legs!

Question
We have a guinea pig that is about three or four months old. When we first got him, he would run around and play and had plenty of energy. Here recently we noticed he isn't using his back legs. Also, sometimes when we pick him up, he sometimes squeals real loud like it hurts him. We get him out and sit in the floor with him to see what he will do and he just sits there. He will not move at all. You can nudge him a little or try to get him to move and he will NOT move! When you put him back in the cage...he drags his back end to get to his food and water bottle. Other than that...he just lays down in his cage all the time. We get him out a lot to see if he is improving or using his legs, but he still just sits there and does nothing. Do you know anything about this with guinea pigs and do you have any advice on what could be wrong with him? I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you so much!

Answer
Hello Crystal,
it could be a few things wrong with your guinea pig, he could have a pinched never or he could have had a stroke that caused him to lose feeling in the back of his legs, but that wouldn't explain why he hurts every time you pick him up. I personally think there's something more going on and I would take your guinea pig to a vet as soon as possible, because I think the back legs are an underlying cause to something else. Keep me updated on how things go.
