do cavies smell? are they loud?

My family was looking into getting a pair of guinea pigs after researching them. During this time we were remodling our house and the tile guy said guinea pigs are horrible pets. He said they smell and are too loud. Now my family is convinced cavies are horrible pets. Is it true that they smell and are loud.

A guinea pig that is looked after correctly, kept clean and has its bedding changed regularly does not smell. Obviously they pee which is why regular cleaning is inportant, but basically, they are as clean as cats.

I love guinea pigs so I am biased but I adore the noises they make which can be quite loud when its meal time! Some are louder than others but eben the noisiest pig isnt as loud as a bird or dog.
