Question
Hi my name is Mary and I just got a new guinea pig from a near by pet store and I was told that she was or might be pregnant...We are still not sure about this as of right now but I  love her a lot and handle her a lot also.  So I've noticed that she has begun to act a little wierd of lately, such as nibbling a little more than usual, making little holes where she lays for hours at a time, and also laying to one side only! she also tends to breathe a little faster at times too, she becomes a little lathargic at times also and I jus would really like any insight into the mannerisms of a femae piggy and how I could tell if she jus might make me a grand-ma....not that I wouldn't be thrilled but I would like to know first...thanx for your help!

By the way in the pet store she was housed with another male piggy too, so like I said he really did like her a lot,....lol!

Answer
Hi,

Well if she is pregnat you shouldn't be holding her a lot. It might do damage to the babies. Guinea pigs don't make nests when they have babies. The gestation period is 62 days. You should be able to see movement in the last two weeks. If you don't see movement shes not pregnat if she hasn't been eatting or drinking a lot more then shes not pregnat. She should be very very very plump if she is pregnat. I know a really good web site you should go on it's www.guinealynx.com. You should also check for other web sites to learn more about pregnancy and baby guinea pigs if shes pregnat. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to e-mail me. Remember that Vitamin C is very important in a pregnat piggie's diet so is pellets and other fresh fruits and veggies. Bye!!! I hope I've helped! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
