Question -
I adopted my 2 guinea pigs from petco around two weeks aggo they are Bonnie and Clyde, both are long haired and were adopted out because someone brought them in and didn't want them anymore, they told me that they were a breeding pair and thought Bonnie might be pregnant but was not sure, he said her nipples looked swollen but he was still uncertin if she was a mother to be or not but both Bonnie and Clyde are very fat I was wondering if you might be able to tell me how I might know if  My piggie is going to be a mommy or not thankyou!!

Answer -
Hi Jamie,

First of all, it is imperative information that if Bonnie is indeed pregnant with her first litter and she is over about 8 months of age, the delivery can be life threatening.  If it turns out that she is pregnant, consult me for further advice.  If you are unaware of her age, I would separate her and Clyde until you are sure that it would be safe if she does get pregnant.

As for telling if she is pregnant, it is very difficult to determine whether or not a female guinea pig is pregnant.  Swelling of her nipples or mammary glands is usually a definate sign that she is, and gradually her sides should begin to bulge out.  Regularly observe her to watch for an increase of appetite.

In the meantime, vitamins are an important part of any guinea pig's diet, especially one that is pregnant.  I suggest that you go out to your local pet store and pig up vitamin supplement droplets to add to their fresh food and water every day.

Thank you for your question, I hope I was of some help to you.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  Good luck with your guinea pigs (=

Answer
Hi Again,

I'm really glad my advice was useful.  Those sound like the right vitamins to use, and if she was pregnant it should be as safe as it can get because she is the perfect age.
