QuestionI've been an owner of two guinea pigs for about a year now.
the problem is..I'm allergic to them. for the past few months, i had moved them to our basement because of my allergies and my dad has been taking care of them. Well, today, i decided to move them back up to my room because i miss them and I'll have more time for them. but I've been thinking of getting rid of my girl, isabelle. She's a longhair guinea, and i think shes about 2 or 3 years younger than my boy guinea, Kenny. I don't have much time for them during the school year (I'm in high school) and so i feel horrible about leaving my babies to my dad to take care of. so, I'm not sure if i should get rid of her or not. Looking at it, i can't handle two pets that i am allergic to...but now that summer is approaching, maybe you could give me some tips that would help me cope with them so that i can keep both of them. some of those tips can include allergy help, matinence help, and other sorts of things like that.
thanks ! :)
AnswerSarah,
I am so sorry that I am just now getting back to you. I am sorry to have made you wait so long for an answer. I am truly sorry.
There are only a few things that some people are allergic to when it comes to Guinea Pigs. I am allergic to my own girls also, not so much them as their hay and shampoo. Here are some tips that should help.
Getting a painters mask to wear when cleaning the cage, grooming and giving them some hay will help.
Grooming them every day for about 15 minutes a day will cut back on all the hair and dandruff.
Try bathing them with baby shampoo also, it'll cut the dandruff down by a lot, plus I find it works better then small animal shampoos.
All of these tips should help a lot. Just due to the fact that your eliminating the most common allergies to Guinea Pigs. Good luck to you,
I hope this helps,
Take care,
Jules
