How often should I hold my GP?

I have an approximately six week old guinea pig that I bought six days ago.  She runs and hides almost every time I go up to her cage.  Should I leave her alone or keep trying to hold her?  If I should hold her; how often should I do this?

After giving the pig a few days to settle in, its best to start holding her asap so she becomes tame and gets used to you.

I would recommend having her on your lap where she will feel safe and secure twice a day for about half an hour, but tailor this according to how your new piggy reacts.
