guinea pig gaining weight

Question
We adopted a neutered male guinea pig about 3 months ago. We're not sure of his exact age but he seems relatively young because he's very active. When we first got him, he was pretty scrawny under all his fur, but lately he seems to be eating a lot more pellets and putting on some weight rather rapidly. His weight isn't abnormally high-- he's less than 3 pounds now-- but we're concerned about how fast he seems to have gained. (We didn't weigh him before so I don't know the exact change, but before he felt bony and now he's starting to feel squishy.) Is this normal considering he seemed underweight before? Could he still be growing?

Answer
Hi Brian

Its a good sign he is gaining weight and also not surprising if he was underweight before.

He will keep growing until about 15 months old so this is more than likely a factor to. As far as I can tell there is nothing to worry about.
