Fighting females

Question
I have 2 winter white dwarf russian hamsters who are sisters and have been together since they were born, they are now 2 months old and have started to fight, viciously. They don't break the skin and I can't see any wounds but they squeal and squeak really loudly about 4/5 times a day when they fight. Should I seperate them into 2 cages? It seems to be the one who is slightly bigger who jumps on the other one and bites her.
Hope you can help
Katie

Answer
Hi,
it's a myth that dwarf hamsters can be kept together. Especially winter white russians (dsungarian) dwarfs are solitary and will fight. Your two have lived together peacefully until now because they were not adult (hamsters are sexually mature after four weeks, but will be adult after two or three months).
You should definitely seperate them, otherwise they might hurt or kill each other or the smaller one will die from pure stress.
I hope this was of some help to you
