Question
Hi Katie- i hope you can help me out here!

My hamster Carlos is a year and a bit old now, and he seems healthy and well. infact, he's very very active- when he's awake he always wants to come out and play- but i dont know what to do anymore- ive tried obstacle courses with treats, going in his ball, burrowing through clothes, he find them boring! (or gets bored quickly) and sometimes he just knaws on this cage bars!

Do you have any ideas how my syrian hamster Carlos can be entertained again?

P.s hamster toys where i live are very expensive and he finds them boring too xx

Answer

Well with his age since he is so active that is a good sign. That means he is very healthy, which is mildly rare in elderly hamsters. My best suggestion would be to let him run in the ball a little longer. If he still gets bored, try taking him outside, but make sure you can watch him and that he is in a safe area with no dogs or cats. Watch out for birds as well, try not to let him eat any grass, but if he does it souldn't hurt him. I take my hamsters outside to let them get some fresh air and run, they are naturaly curious, I had one try to dig a hole in the yard. They love to run around in the grass.
