Question
when my little girl and i got up this morning we noticed that the hamster had escaped from his cage! we have 2 cats and  we have not seen any signs of a struggle, or the hamster! i have put the cats out in the garage, but am not sure how long i can keep them there! is there a quick way to find a hamster and should i even look?

Answer
Hi Christina,

You should definitely look for the hamster.  There are many dangers to it besides the cats (such as electrical wires).  First, shut all of the doors in your house.  Pick up any wires on the floor.  Then, place a small amount of food or a piece of apple (which has a strong scent) in each room.  Wherever the food is eaten, then you'll know which room the hamster is in, and you can intensify your search.

Another method you may want to consider is the "bucket method."  Gather a bucket, a towel, some books, and a piece of apple.  Line the bucket with the towel, and place the apple in the bottom.  Then, using the books, make a staircase leading up to the bucket.  Hopefully, the hamster will climb the "stairs" to get to the apple, and he'll land safely in the bucket.

I hope you find the hamster soon!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
