my hamste is pregnant

My hamsters both escaped from their cages one is a panda bear and the other is a black bear hamster.I noticed a few days ago she was pregnant. I know she will have them in any day now ,she is 17 days along.Could you give me some information on what I should do for her and her babies?

Hi Casey,

To find your hamsters, first close every door in your house.  Keep out any pets like cats or dogs, and pick up any wires that are on the floor.  Then, put a treat, such as a piece of apple (which has a strong smell) in each room.  Keep checking on the pieces of apple to see if any have been eaten.  Then you'll know which room your hamsters are in, and you can intensify your search.

Since one of your hamsters is pregnant, she'll likely seek out a dark place, so be sure to look closely under beds and other dark corners.

There's also another method called the "bucket method."  Gather a towel, a bucket, some books, and a piece of apple.  First line the bucket with the towel.  Then, using the books, make a little staircase leading up to the top of the bucket.  Place the apple in the bucket.  With any luck, your hamsters will climb the books to find the apple, and they'll softly drop to the bottom of the bucket.
