gerbil noises

we have had our gerbil for 1 year now and he recently started making a loud noise but acting completly normal. It sounds almost like a pigeon. is this normal??

I'm afraid I've not come across this before even though I have kept gerbils for a number of years.  However, based on hamster experience, sometimes they suddenly start 'chatting' and squeak a lot.  Perhaps it's a similar thing.  Providing he's not showing any symptoms of ill health, maybe he just wants a chat!
