squeak

Question
I know you say that hamsters should not have a wheel but it is the only way mine can get exercise and he is fine and has a good sized cage. The thing is that when he is on it it squeaks, is there anything i can do to stop that? thanks.

thank you for your question.
I don't say that hamsters should not have a wheel, I just say that most wheels and especially those hamster balls are dangerous and unhealthy for them. Most wheels are way too small, are constructed in a way that is not safe for the hamster and they are made from chewable plastic. I always recommend the Wodent Wheel because I think that it's the only safe wheel that's sold at the moment.

You can stop the wheel from squeaing by smearing some butter or olive oil on the hinges and the nave. If the hamster licks it off, butter or olive oil won't hurt him.
