Hampsters eyes glued shut

Question
My long haired hampster has something wrong with his eyes.  They seem to be glued shut like he has an eye infection.  It started in one eye and now is in both eyes.  Is this common and what can I do to help him?  I've had him for almost a year now and haven't changed the type of his food or his type of bedding etc.  He still seems happy and healthy except for his eyes.

Answer
It sounds like he certainly has an eye infection. The rye infection could be because of respiratory problems as well. The best thing to do is to take your hamster to a vet so the vet can prescribe your hammie antibiotics. That's really the best and only way to treat your hamster. Good luck and keep me posted on ho your hamster is doing.
