Question
HELP!! my female dwarf pudding died. this mother gave birth to 5 babies about 5 days ago. now the babies have no milk and need a mother. what can i do? can i pass it to another pudding mother? but i guess she might eat them. or will she not? please reply asap. very urgent.. thanks!

Answer
Heya
OK firstly if you have another hamster who is lactating (feeding babies) it is possible to pass them on to her, you need to remove the mother from the new nest, and scoop up the babies from the old (try not to touch them too much) and put them in with the other babies, leave the mother out for a few minutes to let the babies absorb the smell, and then hopefully the new mother will except the babies. but its all done at risk becuase if she doesn't except them, she may eat them.
If you decide not to give them to a new mother,ie theres not any feeding mothers about. Baby hamsters start eating solid food at 5 days, so if you soak bread in milk and put it in with the babies hopefully they will eat this, make sure its available all the time and doesn't go off. this should work, but again sadly no promises.
I hope this works for you. i wish you lots of luck!
