how can i tell if my dwarf hamster is pregnant?

hi,
  i brought two dwarf hamsters a few weeks ago and the pet shop owner was not sure if they were male or female as it wasnt very clear to see yet. so i just took them anyway as i dont mind if they have babies. but now iv just recently sexed them and one is a male and the other female! but i dont know if they have mated yet or not so how can i tell if the female is pregnant as i want to be prepared to take the wheel out and stuff if she is please help!!!!

Hi Sam,

Signs that your hamster is pregnant: She will build a large nest and hoard food in it.  And, she will stop coming into heat.  Around day 10 of pregnancy, her belly will be larger and her nipples may be more prominent.

A male and female dwarf hamster pair can produce a *lot* of offspring, as they will mate again soon after she gives birth.  If you don't want any more litters, put the male in another cage before she gives birth.
