Question
My hamster has a gray sack by her left foot?   My family and i don`t know what it is. The sack looks like it is fuild with liquid. Can you tell me what it might be?

Hi Lisa,

    This could be a cyst or an abscess. A cyst will usually break open on it's own, scab over and then go away. An abscess is caused by a cut, bite or a bad scratch and usually involves a trip to the vet, where they will probably lance and drain it. The vet may also prescribe an antibiotic for a time while the wound heals.
    Look at the area, it you can see a cut or bite mark on it, then it is probably an abscess. If you can not see any marks, then it is probably a cyst.
    Should the area around the sack become red or inflamed, then a vet should be consulted with.
