Male and Female Gerbil

Question
If we put a male and a female gerbil together for the purpose of mating and have never seen each other before,  will they try to kill each other?  or will it be playful fighting?

Answer
I've read and heard that the female can be a bit more aggressive than the male and that you should generally put the female in the males cage and make sure you clean it out first to get rid of a lot of the male gerbil scent. They may try to hurt each other. that's always a possibility that may fight and so you should monitor and watch for any signs of aggression.
