Question
QUESTION: Hi!am a FIRST TIMER, I have a Syrian Hamster-teddy bear (long hair) mocha color, she is very sweet & active all day & night, healthy with good apetite.I was told she is about 5-6 months old, is there a way for me to know her EXACT  age? feautres or signs that show at certain age?like teeth, hair or nails?
Hope u will help me with the answer because I know the lifespan of hamster is short, & I want to know what can I do to make her live longer with me?
THANX.

ANSWER: If your hamster is about 5-6 months old, thats as much as you can go on. Their teeth and nails will get worn and grow at the same pace as a younger or older hamster, so seriously there is nothing else you can do except go on what you were told.

Answer
Hamsters do tend to have alot of eye problems, causing one to become sticky and get closed. If you notice some crust sealing  the eye shut, try a luke warm Q tip of water and try to get it open. Don't pull on the lids though. The cause of the irritation might be the bedding. If your not already using Aspen wood shavings, I would switch to those. Other types of wood are not as good for a hamster as Aspen. If the eye remains closed for around 5 days, then I would take him to a vet.
