Hamsters Eyes

Question
Hi there,

I've got a question about my Syrian hamster's eyes, I'm not sure if i should be concerned or not. I've had my hamster for about 7 months now and she's always had large protruding eyes, much more so than other hamsters I've had...Like round little beads that stick right out from her face. But yesterday I noticed that, after coming out of a dark hallway carrying her, they protruded so much I thought they were going to quite literally pop! I could even start to see the pink socket behind the eye. It was a bit alarming to say the least! As soon as she was in the light however the returned their normal state.

My question is this, is big eyes just a fluke of nature (she's always had huge eyes afterall and doesn't seem to be in any distress) or is it something health related that I should see a vet about?

Many thanks,

kim

Answer
Hi Kim,

It is probably just a fluke of nature. As long as there is no drainage or pus coming from the eye, there is really nothing to worry about, but should these things become present then she should be seen by a vet.
