Hamsters ears

Question
I have a dwarf hamster I noticed a week ago that both of his ears look red/
inflammed.  The other day one was bleeding.  I don't know if it was from him
scratching it or another reason.  Do you have any ideas on what to do or why
they are red?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Candy

It sounds as though your hamster has got mites.  These are very itchy, and one particular types tends to attack the head/ear area.

You need to get him to a vet who can prescribe some medication to sort this out.  If you leave this untreated it will get worse and if he is making himself bleed then he could get some sort of infection.

Hope this helps answer your question.
