Are Dwarf Hamsters vicious?

Question
Well actually I'm wanting to get a Dwarf Hamster since my brother got one for Christmas and its a male. I want one for my upcoming birthday but theres a problem....are they vicious? Someone told us that they can tear and kill each other. I wanted to get a female and we think that maybe the other male is just possibly a female so would that be bad? We also wanted to combine cages and connect with tubes. So, if males and females are in the same cage..can they kill? Or, what about males put together and females put together? Please help me! I'm confused!
Also is it normal to be seeing the hamster wheel(well actually we have a ball) covered in the inside with...seeds that were licked and sticked there? He also does it in the tubes...is he cleaning or sick?!? HELP!

Answer
Dear Allie,
thank you for your question.
Dwarf hamsters are not vicious, but they are not social and cannot be kept together. I know that many websites and pet shops say that you can do so, but once the hamster get older (over seven, eight months, when they are really adult), they will start to fight and you will probably end up with a dead or hurt hamster. Many owners never notice the fights until it's too late. Even when the hamsters don't fight, they are always stressed.

I have never heard of hamsters stickeing seeds to their wheel, but I know that many hamsters use their wheel as combined toilet/food depot, so that's probably what your hamster does.
I hope I was of some help to you
