Hamster spot on jaw

Question
Hi
my Hamster has developed a spot of his lower jaw, it is steadily
growing and is approx 2mm now, looks red and hairless, quite
soft. It does not seem to cause any discomfort but the kids are
starting to worry, any ideas?

Answer
Hi Pete,

This sounds like a cyst. The cyst will generally break open by it's self, scab over, then go away. They usually don't cause any pain or discomfort to the hamster.

If this spot breaks open, keep an eye on it to make sure that infection does not occur (reddness, swelling, pus). If signs of infection do occur, then a vet should be consulted as soon as possible.
