mother eating babies?

Question
Hello!
I have a syrian hamster who gave birth 3 days ago, I couldn't see the babies for long so I don't know how many they are but they seemed about 8-9, today I took a closer peek and it looked like they were fewer.I can't see very clearly the babies because she keeps covering them ... So i was wondering... is it possible that my hamster has eaten them? and if it is so how can i tell? My hamster is well fed and she's not disturbed at all. What could be the causes?Or they are so well camouflaged in their "nest" ?

Answer

Well yes your hamster could have eaten some of her babies, but since you never got to count them or see how many there were, it is hard to tell. They could be really well camoflauged in her nest. If your hamster has eaten some of her babies look for parts of the babies around the cage and nest without disturbing the mother, if she has eaten some of her babies most likely there will be limbs or another parts of a hamster baby around the cage, but if not she has most likely not eaten any. The reason a mother hamster may eat her babies is if she feels threatened, or if the babies are weak or sick.
