robo babies

Question
hey Tammy,I got 3 female robo's 3 months ago. from 2 litters.  2 became agressive and one of them was separated out. that one turned out to be a male.  one of the other "females" died.  25 days ago the female got into the male's cage.  today i found at least 4 pups.  they are dark, and about 1/2 of an inch long.  i popped the hut back down on them too quickly to see much else, hoping the mama wouldn't reject them.
1) about how old do you think they are? a week ago mama became aggressive and injured a young female and completely moved all the bedding to a different hut.  is it possible that the pups could be that size at 7 days, and that she was getting ready for the birth?
2) is the father more likely to be the robo she was in with 25 days ago? (not her brother) or the robo that died a week earlier that in hindsight may well have been another male?
3) based on all this, when do you think I can sex the babies and separate them, cos we don't want no more babies right now, and don't want to risk them mating if they are inbred.
thank you so much for your help.  caro

Answer
Hi Caro,

your post is a bit confusing?!

I know this was all by accident and that its not your fault.

First of all please do not let any of the hamsters have any more babies at all!!  Breeding should only be done if you have researched everything fully.

Do not disturb the mother and her babies at all until they are about three weeks old.  If there are any other hamsters in the same cage as the mother and her babies then take them out straight away and put them into a cage of their own to stop any more babies from being born.

It takes approx. 22 days for a female to have her pups so i dont think the father could be the hamster which died a week earlier than 25 days ago!  It must be the other one.

Please make sure all of your hamster cages are secure and absolutely escape proof to stop any other hamsters from escaping!

You should be able to sex the babies at approx 7 weeks and then they should be separated into same sex groups.

Good Luck.

Kind Regards,

Tammy
