Squeaking gerbil - loud breathing

Question
Hi Charlie,

Thanks alot for your quick reply. The noise the gerbil was making wasn't like the usual bird-like cheeping they usually make, its kind of hard to describe. Today I haven't noticed too much noise coming from them.
They seem healthy and bright (they don't keep still long enough for me to notice any discharge!) like you said so thats good. I didn't realise gerbils made noises when they had dreams, very cute!!

Thanks alot
Hayley

Question -
Hi Charlotte,
I bought a pair of gerbils last week, all was fine until this morning I noticed one of them was breathing particularly loudly. I know gerbils are generally quiet animals so the squeaking concerned me. When the gerbils are awake they seem fine and their usual selves and I haven't noticed the noisy breathing. Is my gerbil snoring or is it something more sinister?
Thanks so much for reading this!

Answer -
Hello Hayley!!

Is it that he is squeaking or breathing loudily?

My gerbils squeak really loudly all the time in their sleep!!!! I think it just part of a dream or something (if they dream).
It definitely isn't something to worry about, and as long as they are healthy, alert and bright whilst awake. This means clear, bright eyes, no discharge from mouth, nose or bottom? And normal breathing whilst awake?

If all of these are clear, i don't think you need to worry!! It is good that you are concerned though!!

I hope this helps, and ask again if you need anything!!

Thanks,
Charlie.

Answer
Hello again,

Thats ok!!

Yes it is very cute!!!!

I think it sounds as though they are fine, you haven't mentioned any signs that would suggest it is sick.

If you become worried again feel free to come back and ask again!!

Good Luck
Thanks,
Charlie
