Help I think somethings wrong

Question
I've had my hamster for about a month. They told me at the pet store that she was a couple months old. Well, I was gone for the night and when I returned my hamster was gone. She climed to the top of the cage and pushed the plug out that was in the hole where you can add on more attatchments. Well, her cage was on the top of my computer desk. So she had quite the jump when she escaped. I shook her food dish and she came out. I caught her and put her back in her cage. Ever since she has been acting pretty weird. She is eating but she wont come near me and is acting like she has no idea where she is at. I've tried giving her treats and she will not eat them. I don't know if she could have gotten into something since I just moved and stuff is thrown everywhere.  I did have a plastic dish that was setting on the table and that looks to be all chewed. I'm hoping she is just scared since she was out of her cage and all alone. The vet I go to wont have anyone that deals with hamsters in until this weekend. What should I do?

Answer
Hi Julie,

i think your hamster has had quite a shock falling from that height, but as long as she is not limping or bleeding, or is swollen in any area, then she should be ok.

If any of my hamsters do escape, they do seem to be a little weird when i recapture them.  I think it is because they are used to the freedom after being out, and are not very pleased about being put back in their cage.

She may be a little bored now, so make sure she has plenty of toys and a wheel to play with.

You may have to go through the taming process again so she gets used to the fact that the only way she is going to get out of the cage is by you taking her out, instead of her getting out on her own!

Try to let her out in a running ball on the floor so she doesnt get bored.

If you are still worried about her in a couple of days then please go and see a vet, you may have to go to another vets other than your local.

Please let me know how you get on and feel free to ask me if you need any more info.

Regards,

Tammy
