Lazy hamster

Hi Kathryn,

It is I again. I have a little problem with my hamster being VERY lazy. He wakes up LATE. Yesterday he woke up at 10:00 a clock. What should I do? Also he was sniffing my and he smell a little extract of the food that i hand fed him and he try to bite my palm. But I removed my hand a little to quickly and he went threw the tube to go explore the next cage. What should I do?

It is normal for a hamster to wake up late I am afraid. My hamster does not wake up until 10:00 - 10:30 either. They are nocturnal creatures, so do not wake up till late.
If he tries to bite, remove your hand slowly, sudden movements will frighten them, making them more likely to bite next time. Even if he moves towards your hand he will not usually bite, unless he has his teeth out ready to bite, head right at the skin, just sniff. I still doubt he will bite you, but you can never be certain. They often move towards your hand as if they are going to bite, but mostly just sniff. Also, if he does bite, it will probably not break the skin. It only breaks the skin usually when they are biting out of anger.
