Answer
Hi Safiya,

Make sure his cage is cleaned every week. The food dish should be washed daily. If you are using a water bowl, this to should be washed daily. If you are using a water bottle, make sure to give your hamster fresh water every evening. Also check to make sure it is working properly and clean off any crud or build up that may gather on the end of it.
For taming: When bringing a hamster home for the first time, it is best to leave him alone for the first few days. This is so he can get used to his new home and surroundings.
Days 4-6, Stand or sit by your hamsters cage and talk to him is a soft voice. This is so he can get used to your voice and your scent.
Day 7, While talking to your hamster, put your hand in his cage. Let him sniff and walk on it. Do not try to pick him up at this point. Do this several times during the evening while he is awake.
Day 8, While talking to your hamster, put your hand in, let him sniff and walk on it and this time when he comes to you, try petting him with your finger/s. If he accepts this, then you may try to pick him up. Do not force him. The taming process is on the hamsters terms only and these steps may need to be repeated. If just depends on your hamster.
