QuestionI know that ideally, gerbils like 59 to 68 degrees, but how low a temperature can they tolerate before it becomes a problem? Do you know??
Thanks,
Mark
AnswerGerbils orginate from Mongolia where their habitat is mostly desert and grassy steppes. There the temperature fluctuates between 40-122 degress Fahrenheit at different times of the year. I'd say optimum temperature is 68. I wouldn't recommend keeping them at anything below 50-55 for long periods of time as it could make them more susceptible to respiratory problems. However, like any mammal, they can survive and adapt to a wide variety of climates.
