I found space!

Question
Hi Shawntiah,
I found space for my male gerbil! I cleared some stuff out of my room and I am able to get a smaller cage and put the male in it. I just have a few questions. If I seperate the male and female for a month or two, will they still get along with eachother when I put them back together? I have heard of gerbils attacking eachother sometimes, and I don't wan that to happen to mine! And if she has more babies while the male is in the seperate cage, will she do OK on her own? I have noticed that the male makes the nest material and constructs the nest for the female. If she does have another litter, this will be her 6th. I also took your advice and started putting drops in her water for extra nutrients. If I can do anything else for her, please let me know!

Answer
Hello Sarah,
I'm so glad to hear that you found enough space for a smaller cage. :-) This will give the female some time to heal and get her strength. Gosh with having all those babies she probably is tired and weak. You know sometimes the gerbils can fight a little if they are seperated for a long time. Some people will keep the cages side by side so they can still see each other and interact with each other but they just can't mate. Also, the female will do fine raising the pups by herself. The male does help out, but then he also tries to mate with her constantly while he is helping with the pups. She can do fine by herself and I'm glad you bought the vitamins. I use them myself and so do a lot of people. How is she doing? It may take a while for the vitamin drops to work, you can put them in all the water bottles for all your pets as well. It should be fine to do that. Does she look like she's getting better?
