Gerbil redness

"Hi.  I have 2 gerbils. 1 is a Mongolian gerbil, and the other is a grey, small gerbil.  I have noticed since 2 months ago, when I purchased the grey gerbil, that his nose and his paws are kinda red.  Do you know why???

Hi Jenny,

Has the colour of the skin changed since you got them? Some gerbils have a red colour skin and some have much darker skin, almost black. If it has always been red then there is nothing to worry about!!! However, if it has only become that way lately and it looks sore then i would take him to the vets as he may have made it sore by chewing the bars of the cage, or digging!!!
