Nursing bitch

I am studying canine behaviour and psychology and in my mating and reproduction module i have a question which i am unable to find any information anywhere. Here it is: A pet bitch has just had her first litter of puppies. After a few hours she leaves the whelping box and refuses to return to it or be involved with the puppies?
Please could you help me with this, or if you could give me any website links that may be of help if you dont wish to give such information thanks!

I'm not sure what the questions is unless you're asking why it happens?  I would have to ask how old is the female?

There is a hormone that is released when a female gives birth (sometimes it take longer to kick in, and sometimes it just doesn't kick it at all).

Some females, regardless of their age (or species) are just not mentally capable of rearing young.
