Question
Hi, my pug had a litter of healthy pups a week ago. She seems absolutely fine and is looking after her puppies perfectly. However, I have noticed that her poo is white and very runny (like water). She has also had symptoms of a cold but that has cleared. Is this a normal discharge or should I be worried? Many thanks

Answer
Hi Samantha

Did she expel all her placenta's and her after birth?

The discharge doesn't sound what is considered normal.  Are her teats hot and hard to the touch?

You can give her vitamin c and echinacea to help boost her immune system.  And canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) will help tighten her up without plugging her up.

The runs can be from cleaning up after the pups.  A couple of tablespoons of pumpkin a feeding helps.  You don't have to worry as pumpkin is considered a root vegetable and very safe.  You need to stop the runs as that can lead to dehydration and then you really do have a problem.

Good luck
