Question
I have a 2 yr old Great Dane , she is on approximately day 52 of her pregnancy. She has had a lot of discharge for the last 3 days , not really acting as though she is really in labor or distress.. her temp dropped to 98 yesterday and is still about the same today. No heavy panting although her milk started showing about 6 days ago, she hasn't eaten yesterday or today..is this discharge normal and is this to soon for her to be in labor?

Answer
Pregnant bitches should get to day 63 in order to have healthy and fully developed puppies. Because the gestation period is so short, giving birth 10 days early is very risky and unhealthy for the puppies. It has ben a few days since you sent your question so I am hoping that it was a false alarm. Discharge is normal as long as it is not bloody. Milk can come in up to two weeks before the puppies are sure to be born, good luck and I hope all is going well.
