Question
I have a American Pit Bull who just gave birth to six puppies, there look nice and healthy and are moving with lots of energy so everything there looks great there. I had tried to stay close with her during  her pregnancy and labor because i didn't want her behavior to change, so now when  she had the puppies  we were sleeping and  in the morning when I went to her she was growling as I went downstairs to see her,, now I no she probably is afraid that I will touch her babies but I know better,, is there anything I could do to stop her from growling,She is letting me sit on the step about four feet from her but doesn't want me to go closer, also i no she is going to have to go to the bathroom is she going to let me let her out,

Answer
Hi Michelle

How long have you had your female and how old is she?  A stable female will let her humans in.  It's important that you handle them and check them over.

You need to give her a stern NO! command when she growls at you and not show fear.  Sit in the area with her and her pups and let her see you handling them and petting her at her at the same time.

She needs to go out and you want to check to ensure her teats don't become hard and hot.  You may want to supplement her with vitamin B to help calm her nerves.

Good luck
