Question
I have a two year old male neutered yorkie (9 pds)who went with me everywhere when he was a baby. He is a little nerotic like most yorkies, thinks he owns the world and everyone should love him. I recently got married and we got another puppy, a female spayed terrier mix (looks a lot like a jack russel with very long legs about 15 pds). Now they both go with us everywhere. They didn't get along for the first couple months and then they got use to each other. They have now lived together for about a year and play frequently. Today the Yorkie bit the female after I kissed him and went to go kiss her, he just attached her b/c he knew I was going to kiss her. Tonight I  gave them both a bath separatley. about 30 minutes later I looked on my bed and as ususal htey both were sitting there until I realized the female had blood all over herr head. I think he bit her again because when I went downstairs there was blood on the couch. I think I mihgt have started a little bleeding by giving her a bath and washing up the built up blood but not as much as she had on herr head, there was defiantly a lot more. I don't think it is deep enough to get stiches or anything but I don't want it to get infected. How can I stop the male's jelousy of the female? Also what is the best way to stop the bleeding on her and to treat it?

Sorry so long.

thanks! Very worried!

Answer
Hi Danielle!
Yes, you have a little jealousy going on there.  It happens!  I have a chinese crested female that does not want my other dogs to come near me when we are on the couch together! Also,my little yorkie/silky mix is very jealous of my other dogs if they go into my bedroom as she sleeps with me and does NOT want them on my bed!  LOL
Anyway.....to treat the wound, pour some peroxide on it.  It will bubble out any infection and is pretty good at cleaning up a wound. Don't use alcohol, it will burn. You can use neosporin on it, that will help heal.  After you clean it up, check out the wound and make sure that it doesn't need stitches.  As far as the jealousy issue, I don't know what to tell you. Try to give both attention, and I would correct the one who is doing the biting by firmly saying NO.  Do not hit or try to discipline him roughly as it doesn't really work.  You may want to get a good book on behaviour modification, and even a good obedience class will help control this problem.

good luck and God Bless,
Becky
