Question
my 10 week old golden retriever pup has round worms and coccidia, hes being treated with albon and is improving but now im concerned about reinfection from our yard,I used lysol disenfectant in my kitchen floor because amonia wich i hear kills coccidia will ruin my pergo floor and the residue might hurt the pup.can i spray amonia in my yard where he has pooed ,let sit for a day or so and hose it down.will it be safe then for the pup to use this area again, safe from amonia ,and coccidia, will lysol disenfectant wipes avoid reinfection from my kitchen floor?I used it today went over it 2xs waited to dry then with a clean mop 2xs clear water.  hope you can help or find some answers for me im desperate and tired of washing everything in sight.thanks for your time    Linda

Answer
Linda-

Lysol will not kill 100% of the coccidia but it is definitely better then nothing, and will kill a lot of the parasites. If I were you, I would re-do it in a few days, and let the lysol sit for a as long as you can without it hurting your floor, and then mop it up.

As for your yard, a 20% ammonia solution sprayed over it will kill all the coccidia. You only have to let it sit for an hour or so, but if you let it sit overnight, that would be fine too, then hose it down and let it dry.

Once it is dry, it is safe for your puppy.

Good luck, and congratulations on your golden puppy!!! I hope he feels better soon!
